Who We Are:

Commons Action for the United Nations is an umbrella group that welcomes and encompasses all individuals, organizations, institutions and groups that are working as advocates for the Global Commons within the UN framework. Our major focus is currently at the United Nations Commission for Sustainable Development (UNCSD). However, we are actively working in other UN frameworks such as the Congress of Youth (COY) the Conference of Parties (COP), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and more. We operate in a decentralized system of decision making and our programme of action is accomplished through a number of working groups, these currently include:

Economics Working Group - This group is focused on developing economic, social and environmental policy for UNCSD. It is also working to establish a long-term project in the Gulf of Mexico that would begin the implementation process of the policies that are being recommended to UNCSD.

Education Working Group - This group is helping to facilitate an eCourse on the commons and climate change. It also is planning to hold several workshops in Cancun Mexico later this year, including a workshop at COY6.

Strategy Working Group - This group works on policy and the overall strategy and general direction of CAUN.

UN Team - This working group meets weekly in New York at the United Nations Headquarters. Their programme of action involves the establishment of a Global Commons CoNGO Committee, promoting the commons through educational seminars and media, as well as networking and partnership building with NGOs, ambassadors and others committed to systemic transformation.
